The first record about the settlement of Naberezhnye Chelny dates from 1626. Having been advantageously situated in the backwater of the "Kama" river the settlement had turned for several years period into an enormous commercial centre. By the year 1917 Chelny had had steam mills, watermills and a flour-grinding mill which belonged to a millionaire Stakheev. By the same year a big by the time grain elevator had been built.
The renaissance of Naberezhnye Chelny fell on the second half of the xx century when in 1969 construction of the biggest automobile complex Kamaz had been started. Only for several years the plant had turned the small city into an extremely growing megalopolis. Dozens of people start coming to the city from every corner of the country. From that time and on the city has been being divided for convenience onto the Old City, the part where mainly builders and their children live; and the New City, built for future citizens of Kamaz. In 1976 to provide coming experts with appropriate living conditions there had been started construction of the Tatarstan Business-hotel . Firstly the hotel was renamed into the Tatarstan Business-Hotel. Secondly the rooms were remodeled and highly-educated staff was hired. Moreover, the hotel hall was re-equipped and an ultra-modern fitness-club was opened in the same building. The "Mile" laundry started to function and the Tatarstan restaurant was considerably widened.
